The central work, and the embodiment of the album's title, is Pinkham's Wedding Cantata. The four-movement work utilizes provocative texts from Song of Solomon of the Old Testament, set to equally sensuous music by one of America's great composers of the last century. Artwork for the album's cover, titled Song of Solomon, colorfully depicts the stirring and sometimes controversial book in the Bible, in which two lovers allegorically represent God and his love for his people. He Qi, who generously donated the use of his piece for the album, was the first among mainland Chinese to earn a Ph.D. in religious art after the Cultural Revolution. He won the 20th Century Achievement Award in the field of religious art theory and Christian art creation from the International Biographical Centre in Cambridge, England. His gallery is located in Stillwater, MN, and can be viewed online at: www.heqigallery.com .
