Chris Bartley (bass) is a doctoral candidate in choral conducting at the University
of Arizona under the direction of Bruce Chamberlain and Elizabeth Schauer. He is
currently studying the music of Handel's Messiah and its relationship to the cultural
context in which it was composed. Prior to his arrival in Tucson, he masqueraded as a
sociologist at the University of North Carolina before turning to conducting under the
tutelage of Susan Klebanow, Tonu Kalam, and Dan Huff.
