Brian Witkowski, Bass

Michigan native Brian Witkowski is a candidate for the Doctor of Musical Arts degree with emphasis in Vocal Performance and minor in Theater at the University of Arizona. Brian is an active performer in Arizona, where he sings at the University of Arizona, with Arizona Opera, Southern Arizona Opera, Arizona Onstage Productions, the Tucson Chamber Artists, Arizona Friends of Music and in other capacities. He recently sang Anthony in Stephen Sondheim's Sweeney Todd at the Temple of Music and Art with Arizona Onstage Productions in August 2011.

A champion of Art Song, Brian sang at the Big Bear Lake Song Festival in June 2011 and studied with Dr. Carol Kimball and others. In June 2010, Brian was a recipient of the Marc and Eva Stern Fellowship to attend SongFest at Pepperdine University, where last June, he sang in concerts and master classes with Martin Katz, Graham Johnson, John Musto, and others. In 2006, he was awarded a fellowship to study Lieder in Salzburg, Austria with the University of Miami. Other festivals Brian has performed at include the Bear Valley Music Festival in California, the La Musica Lirica International Music Festival in Italy, and the Brevard Music Festival in North Carolina.

Brian is a facilitator for Arts Integration Solutions (www.artsintegration.com), in which he works with K-12 teachers to empower them with the vocal arts to enhance their classroom experiences. He is a past teaching artist for Opening Minds through the Arts, a highly successful student achievement and school improvement program that integrates the arts into core curriculum in the Tucson Unified School District. Brian earned his Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance at Oakland University in Rochester, and his Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance from Loyola University New Orleans.
