Robyn Rocklein, Mezzo Soprano

Robyn Rocklein, mezzo-soprano, made her debut with the Tucson Chamber Artists in 2006 and was a featured soloist in Mozart's
Mass in C Minor where the Arizona Daily Star hailed her as an "outstanding soloist." In addition to performing with the Tucson Chamber Artists, she has been a featured soloist for the Tucson Symphony Orchestra on multiple concerts to include: Handel's
Messiah,
The Lord of the Rings Symphony, Bernstein's
Chichester Psalms, Bach's
Magnificat and Vivaldi's
Gloria. Ms. Rocklein also sings with The Scottsdale Choral Artists and has performed with Scottsdale Musical Arts Orchestra, St. Andrew's Bach Society, Southern Arizona Symphony Orchestra and other regional orchestras. In 2010, composer John Williams "hand selected" her to sing in his tour of
Star Wars.
In addition to oratorio, Ms. Rocklein has appeared in Arizona Opera productions since 2004. During the 2010-2011 season she completed a cover study of the title role of Carmen and appeared in numerous comprimario roles throughout past seasons with Arizona Opera. In 2010-2011 she appeared in the role of "Hansel" in Lyric Opera Theatre's
Hansel and Gretel, and is scheduled to appear in 2011 as "Marcellina" in their production of
Le Nozze di Figaro. Other previous roles include "Elizabeth Proctor" in Ward's
The Crucible, "Mezzo-soprano" in Argento's
Postcard from Morocco, "Beppe" in Mascagni's
L'Amico Fritz, and the titles role in
The Rape of Lucretia and
La Perichole.
In addition to her regional engagements, Ms. Rocklein has appeared as a soloist in England, Germany, and with the AIMS Festival Orchestra in Graz, Austria, as well as engagements throughout the United States. She has sung under the batons of international conductors Richard Buckley, Markus Huber, Alexander Kalajdzic, Cal Stewart Kellogg, James Meena, Edoardo Mueller, Joel Revzen, David Stahl, and Anthony Walker.
Ms. Rocklein placed as a finalist in the 2009 Meistersinger Competition in Austria and was the winner of the 2011 and 2010 ASU Concert of Soloists Concerto Competition (Voice Division), 2010 Quest for the Best Competition, 2009 UA President's Concerto Competition, Marguerite Ough Competition, Arizona NATS Auditions, and was a finalist in the Charles A. Lynam International Vocal Competition in 2008. Ms. Rocklein is a two-time winner of the Igor Gorin Memorial Award and Miriam L. Wolfe Award, and is a Medici Scholarship Winner. Ms. Rocklein has a Masters Degree in Vocal Performance from the University of Arizona.
