Chorus, audience to join voices
Perhaps the greatest way to tell a story is through music, and this weekend, the Tucson Chamber Artists are telling arguably the greatest story of all through their music.
The four-year-old professional chorus will join voices with its audience to tell the story of Jesus' birth, from the shepherds in the field to the baby in the manger.
The chorus will take its cue from "Nine Lessons and Carols at King's College" and the St. Olaf Christmas Festival — one of the country's oldest musical Christmas celebrations. The St. Olaf intertwines spoken vignettes with songs to tell the story of Christ's birth.
The TCA, in a concert dubbed "Of Love and Life," will tell the story through choral pieces from the Russian, French, English and American tradition, spoken word and carols. The audience is invited to join the 16 choir members in classic Christmas carols including "O Come, All Ye Faithful," "Away In a Manger," "Hark, the Herald Angels Sing" and "What Child Is This."
"What's nice about it, is we do it in these intimate settings. It is an uplifting, yet intimate kind of experience," said Music Director Eric Holtan.
Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Philip's in the Hills Episcopal Church, 4440 N. Campbell Ave.; and 3 p.m. Sunday at Dove of Peace Lutheran Church, 665 W. Roller Coaster Road. Tickets are $15-$20 by calling 401-2651; or online at www.TucsonChamber Artists.org.
