Music for great literature, chamber style
Cathalena E. Burch, ARIZONA DAILY STAR

The great texts of Shakespeare, Tennyson and Blake deserve their own theme music.

At least that's what the Tucson Chamber Artists might have been thinking when they drafted their upcoming performance, "A Midsummer (Night's) Concert: Great Texts Set to Great Music."

The performance features music by Vaughan Williams, Chatman and Dello Joio, with Williams' sensuous "Serenade to Music" as the centerpiece.

Consider this a preview of the Tucson Chamber Artists' second series. The fully professional classical chamber ensemble features 20 professional singers.

In two concerts this weekend - at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Resurrection Lutheran Church, 11575 N. First Ave., Oro Valley; and 2 p.m. Sunday at St. Philip's in the Hills Episcopal Church, 4440 N. Campbell Ave. - the group will be accompanied by pianist Miroslava Panayotova and oboist Andrea Shaheen. Tickets cost $10, $5 for students, at the door.

The performances are a glimpse of the group's 2005-06 season, which features choral works that span Bach to Britten, Brahms to Bernstein.
